Counsel makes the decision better. Permission just lets you off the hook for it.
A grown man does not ask for approval to live his own life. He seeks counsel, weighs it, and then makes the call — without waiting for a committee to bless it. Permission is for children and for men on someone else's payroll.
There is a difference between counsel and permission, and most men blur it. Counsel is wisdom you gather to make a better decision. Permission is the signal you wait for so you never have to own the decision at all. The man stuck asking permission dresses his fear up as prudence — one more opinion, one more perfect moment, one more person to go first. The man who decides acts even while uncertain, and learns faster precisely because he is moving. He carries the weight of his own choices. That weight is the whole point. It is what makes him a man and not a passenger.
